1872 site of Hawaii's first hotel, 1917 hotel becomes the Army and Navy YMCA housing 25,000 men stationed in Hawaii during WW1.  1926 the building was demolished after damage from termites and over use.  !928 a new YMCA building is built, designed in a Spanish mission style which became The State Foundation on Culture & the Arts' Hawaii state Museum on the 2nd Floor in 2002.  There was extensive  renovation and restoration in1987.  You can see many reminders of 1928 on the 1st, 2nd floor and in the courtyard.
