I went to St. Peters Square and Basilica. The Square itself and the surrounding buildings are amazing and gigantic. Then you turn your attention to the Church and Basilica itself and even on the outside it’s pretty damn incredible. Then you go inside. For the first time I’ve entered a church and have been utterly speechless. There are no words to describe it that would be justifiable. Still a church to go confess your sins and to pray, of which I saw both happening. The inside of the church is enormous and takes your breath away even when you are expecting something spectacular. I honestly had no idea as to what to expect and almost didn't go in. That would have been the most fateful decision and something I would have regretted. What is amazing is that it is a free entry I believe mainly because it is a place of worship and because it is something people go to do there. You can visit the tombs of the past Popes and pay your respects. Bless Pope John Paul. You can also go to the top of the basilica and get views of Roma it is an incredible view and feeling.

The world’s largest cathedral containing Michelangelo’s 'Pieta' and amazing dome. Entry free. Open everyday 8am – 6pm. Dome offers great view and is worth it if you have the cash: 7 Euro in the lift to half way then 320 stairs. 4 Euro up all 550 stairs! Tomb underneath St Peters contains body of Pope John Paul 2nd (died 2005).

It was such a spiritual completion for me when I walked through the archway into the Vatican and then to walk through the doors into the Basilica. It is awe inspiring. Even without the spiritual aspect, it is a gorgeously constructed building with so many beautiful pieces by all of the greats of the Renessaince. Having been to many churches while in Italy, I can easily say that if you go to no other, you must go to the Vatican. The Vatican Museums are also well worth the time.

Truely amazing place. I loved it. Be prepared and make sure that your knees and shoulders are covered. A scarf (even one that you can see through) will work, as long as there is somehing over your knees and shoulders. The main room is gigantic, with marble everywhere. It is so beautiful inside! I spent a long time looking around at everything. Climb (or take the elevator and then stairs) to the top of the dome, as the view is stunning.

What a beautiful church! Even for the unreligious, it's architecturally beautiful and asthetically pleasing. You can even take a spiral stair case up and around the dome to the very top! Mind you, it's a bit narrow so if you're large, unsteady or if you're afraid of heights I do not recommend doing that as there will be people ahead and behind you pressing you to move on.

A gem of a building for budding photographers, though if I remember correctly only the outside can be photographed as it is forbidden to take shots of the interior. Make the effort to get to the top of the cupola, it´s a bit of a treck and scary as hell but the views are amazing. You even get glimpses of the Pope´s private gardens through the windows as you go up.

I think it's the biggest in the world. It's a piece of art but the most beautiful thing is Michaelangelo's Pieta which is one of the masterpieces created when he was young. Moreover, the altar is so grandiose and majestic. Attending a Mass there is as being in heaven.

Ohh la la... best architecture ever! beautiful statues and great images. Fantastic environment to sit in peace and pray. The view from the top of the basilica is something worth climbing 385 stairs!

Virtually everything is exceptional in this building. In my opinion, it is probably the nicest building in all of Europe. Michelangelo's Pieta sculpture is a must see.

Extraordinary - enormous with a huge number of fabulous sculptures. On the downside however, is the awareness of what has paid for all of the horrific wealth over the centuries...

Words cannot even begin to describe its size and beauty. Wish we would have more time to sit and stare. So much history and even if you aren't religious it is an amazing experience.

This is an amazing building. It is so HUGE but when you go inside you don't feel overwhelmed by its size, it is actually cozy. And the art is awe inspiring!

This is just one of those places that no matter what your religion, the building itself will make you stop and take a breath. Really Truly Breathtaking!

Dziwię się, że dodaję to miejsce jako pierwsza. A może nie potrafiłam go znaleźć? Bazylika św. Piotra - tego się nie da opisać w kilku słowach.
