t is the largest of the papal basilicas, often described as the largest church in the world and the center of Catholicism. However it is not the cathedral of the diocese of Rome because that title belongs to the basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano.

The Basilica of St. Peter is the seat of the main events of the Catholic faith and is therefore in solemn occasion of the celebrations for Christmas, Easter and Holy Week, the proclamation of the new pope's funeral and the dead ones, the 'opening and closing of the jubilee. Under the pontificate of Pius IX for the meetings of the First Vatican Council, under Pope John XXIII and Paul VI as the Second Vatican Council.

its a wonder. u may need an entire day to see d basilica.there is so much to see, from the magnificient exterior to the marvellous interior, from the sparkling marblefloors to the beautifully painted ceiling ...its a huge work of art, shows pure dedication of its builders.the larger than life sculptures all around of various great saints is a marvel. it is a life changing experience.if i get a chance i will go again.

Really loved the Vatican. If you head to the Sistine Chapel, take your time in the hall of maps on the way there - we thought it, and other rooms, were actually better than the chapel itself.

Worth to go visit, even more if you're religious (catholic). Even if you're not it's still interesting! The place is huge and very luxurious. Can get very crowded in the summer.
