May 17, 2009 Holy Saircase or Scala Santa. It’s a small church where you can find the steps that Jesus climbed when he was sentenced to death. Saint Helena, the Emperor Constantine’s mother, brought it to Rome in 334 AD. There are 28 steps covered with wood. Pilgrims go up on their knees and not on their feet. You can also see the marks of the blood stains on the steps. You can see old people doing their utmost to climb these steps. Related Links
