ST. Peter in the Vatican (incl. San Pietro in Vaticano) was built between 1506-1626 Roman Catholic basilica in the square of St.. Peter in the Vatican. This is the second-largest church in the world (area: 23.000 m²) and one of the most important holy places of Christianity. According to tradition takes the place of crucifixion and burial of St.. Peter, considered the first pope - his tomb is located under the main altar. In the basement of the basilica, and there are also tombs of other popes.
