Jan 10, 2011 Mayatan Bilingual School is a non-profit school that teaches 300 copaneco children in English and Spanish, grades Pre-K to 12. It was founded by local mothers 20 years ago, and it gives scholarships to 45% of its students, which is pretty cool. The school welcomes visitors for tours or just to see the campus and eat at the caseta (a small restaurant/cafeteria). It depends on 20+ foreign volunteers to teach in English and do some of the administration. It's 1.5 miles or so uphill from town on the way to the Macaw Mountain Bird Park (another cool destination). It's website is http://www.mayatanfoundation.org.
