School
Mayatan Bilingual School is a private, non-profit, independent school that offers instruction in English and Spanish to 300 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The school was founded in 1991 by a group of local mothers. Today, some 45% of its students receive scholarships. It is staffed by a mix of foreign volunteers, who teach in English and do some administration, and Hondurans, who teach in Spanish and run the school. The school is supported by the Honduran Mayatan Foundation and is closely tied with U.S. 501c3 Hope for Tomorrow, Inc, who supply many of the sponsorships for scholarships and school improvement activities.

Mayatan Bilingual School is a non-profit school that teaches 300 copaneco children in English and Spanish, grades Pre-K to 12. It was founded by local mothers 20 years ago, and it gives scholarships to 45% of its students, which is pretty cool. The school welcomes visitors for tours or just to see the campus and eat at the caseta (a small restaurant/cafeteria). It depends on 20+ foreign volunteers to teach in English and do some of the administration. It's 1.5 miles or so uphill from town on the way to the Macaw Mountain Bird Park (another cool destination). It's website is http://www.mayatanfoundation.org.
