Situated at Ngong Ping at Lantau Island, the Tian Tan Buddha, at 34 metres high is the world's tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha.  Modeled after the Altar of Heaven (Tian Tan) in Beijing, it is one of the five large Buddha statues in China.  The Buddha statue sits perched on a lotus throne, and is reached by climbing 268 steps up a small winding road.
The Tian Tan Buddha was completed in 1993.

Amazing.... An enormous hike, but well worth the trip.

A fantastic scenic, gondola ride takes you up the mountain to the worlds largest seated Buddha.   Well worth the trip.  It's very touristy, but a great trip.  Be ready to walk if you want to walk all the way up the stairs.  Very easy to get to taking the subway.

The Big Buddha was my favourite attraction in Hong Kong. He overlooks valleys full of trees and you can enjoy a great vegetarian lunch at the monastery. I stayed at the youth hostel there too and hiked through the forest the next day. So relaxing and enchanting and different to busy kowloon!

It's a pretty amazing sight! Although the bus ride up there is pretty long it is well worth it once you get up there. Once you reach the Buddha you can see far over the country side. The buddha, the country side, it's all an amazing sight!

Amazing Buddha, a pity it was really foggy when I was there but it was still one of the most impressive buddhas I have ever seen!
