A spectacular waterfall in Iceland near Akureyri. Actually, it is located in the Mývatn district (North-Central Iceland). The water drops 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. The story goes that in the year 1000 when Iceland adopted Christianity as official religion, the strongest advocate of this new law, Þorgeir, threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall, hence the name: Godafoss (waterfall of the Gods).

It is a beautiful wide but short waterfall that is literally 2 seconds off of highway 1 and is where the pagans of iceland threw stautues of theirs god off of when iceland switched to christianity.

Nice place, but not the best waterfall in Iceland, I think. (But perhaps the weather - wind and rain - had an impact on my experience)
Dettifoss is more impressive!

Watch it from the side opposite to the tourist parking, coming from Akureyri, pass the parking, turn right just after the little bridge! Much more fun.

very nice photo point... the problem is just the weather, you never know, if it is not raining right that time :O))
