About Mehrangarh Fort
One of India's most famous attractions, Mehrangarh Fort, situated in the city centre about 400 feet above the city and surrounded by thick imposing walls. It is also one of the country's largest forts.
Mehrangarh Fort was first built by the 15th Rathore Ruler, who, driven by a need for a safer stronghold, started construction in 1459. To ensure an auspicious beginning for the fort, a man was buried alive within the foundations. The fort sits atop a hill that spreads over 5 kilometres, within which contains several beautiful and historical palaces, the Chamunda Mataji Temple, the fort museum, and well preserved canons.
