This Brihadishwara Temple is found 35km north of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu.
It was built by the Chola emperor Rajendra I (son of Raja Raja) in the 11th century and is in the style of the temple at Thanjavur, although it sees far fewer visitors, being somewhat out of the way.
It is best reached from Kumbakonam and well worth the effort as some of the statues are truly exquisite and it is surrounded by a pretty landscaped garden.
