The Fortress in Trichinopoly is amazing, a castle like structure literally carved out of the solid rock of a mountain. It is a huge monument of some significance to Hindu's as it's peak not only provides amazing views of the entire city and its lush tropical surrounds but also contains a small shrine. Non Hindu's are not permitted to enter this shrine but the climb to the top of "the fortress" is still spectacular although I did feel sorry for the elephant that was being used to provide luck to travellers....
