Its a 6 hours train journey starting at the foothills from a town called Mettupalayam all the way upto Ooty town which is about 7,347 feet above sea level. You travel in a antique steam engine built by the Swiss and operated by the Bristish from 1908 -Yes it is also a "World Heritage Site" decalred by -UNESCO. The journey is spectacular in orienting the first time visitor to the terrain/topography and the change in vegetation and takes along some stunning sceneries . It cost about about Rs 50 (Rs 1 / 45 = US$) and Rs 150 for second class seat per adult.
