Balaramapuram is famous for saree making which are exclusive in terms of design and how they are made. These sarees are very simple and a traditional wear. These are woven from un-dyed natural cotton. The most interesting aspect of these sarees are the so called designs kasavu - which is like an embroidery. These are developed by special worksman and they have been doing for hundreds of years. Sad part is that this is a dying industry. Anyone visiting trivandrum must see these streets that are exclusive to selling these sarees and other related garments. Worth spending few hundreds of INR and couple of hours.
