The Banganga Tank is an ancient tank with stone steps leading down to the water in which there are a few ducks and geese floating around. The tank is surrounded on all four sides by temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and in the mythological epic Ramayana Rama and Lakshman pass this way on their way to save Sita from Ravana in Lanka. There are deepstambhas surrounding the tank which are towers with small niches for oil lamps lit up during Diwali the festival of lights and the victory of Rama over Ravana. It is a very scenic spot away from the hustle bustle of the city. There is an annual music festival held here with a makeshift stage in the middle of the water and people sitting on the stone steps. This area is just next to the Governor of Maharashtra's Bungalow with it's own private beach in the Walkeshwar area.
