It is a most impressive Buddhist temple dating back to the days before Islam surpressed all other religions on Java and when Hinduism and Buddhism peacefully co-existed. Climbing it's 10 levels gives you an impressive overview of the surrounding nature as well as a view on 2 of the 4 mountains closeby Yogjakarta the by far largest town in it's vicinity.
