i would like to give four stars about this pre-christian tombstones in airmadidi within north sulawesi [indonesia] region. but refer to bad the conditions just like forgotten, abandoned and some modern activities run nearby, sorry to say, i put the three stars on it.
pre-christian tombstones known as 'waruga' in local language. it's a burial site where the coffins put on the ground. locals belief, death body must be sent to the universe in the same position as in the womb [foetal position]. so they collect big stones, make it like coffins with carving around, also personification of their gods and put the death body in.
after 18th century, dutch government announced waruga's usage must be stop due to the outbreaks.
