May 21, 2008 The Rock is a large rocky outcrop in Cashel. Originally the site for the Kings of Munster, it was then given over to the church in the 11th century. It has a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture in the form of Cormacs Chapel (with a sarcophugas with engravings in the Hiberno- Norse style), it has a large Gothic cathedral, a round tower and a high cross. Magnificent at night, set in beautiful green landscape Oct 15, 2009 Impressive, driving into town and then all of a sudden this place appears, just breathtaking. Museum is indeed not that great. Fantastic place to hang around, good photo-opportunities. There are also some ruins in the surrounding area, don't miss it. Great to see this giagantic old walls standing in the middle of a field full of cows.
