May 13, 2009 Newgrange is a 5000 year old passage tomb/ancient temple - making it older than Stonehenge and the Giza Pyramids! These mounds are all over the place, most of the time right in the middle of someone's farm! Newgrange, while not the biggest (that's Knowth), is the best one to visit as it's the only one you can walk into. The visitor's centre there is very nice with a exhibiton, gift shop, and cafe. Definitely worth a visit! Oct 31, 2011 Newgrange is a fascinating example of a part of our history and culture we know little about. It proves an understanding of science that preceeds the Egyptians but due to the lack of writing that our African or Mediterranian counterparts had there is little to no record of what might have been going on. The centre has lots to see while your waiting for a tour and be sure to investigate the gift shop. Sep 24, 2009 The one burial mound in Ireland where you can enter and get a decent explanation. A must for everyone who is interested in prehistoric times and for all who likes to be impressed by ancient achievement. The visitors' center is well laid out and very clear. You can only visit the tomb with a guide which is a good thing because there are so many things to say about this monument. Sep 4, 2009 I had the opportunity to visit Newgrange with my wife, and we both found it be truly amazing and thought provoking. I rank this wonder on par with the Giza Pyramids, Petra, and Angkor Wat. It is truly a spectacular ruin. I hope to see Newgrange again! Good Journeys! Nov 24, 2008 Great place to visit if history interests you. Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth are around 5000 years old. The rock carvings surrounding each are so interesting and the visitors center there is very interesting. Related Links
