Inishmore is the biggest of the 3 Aran Islands. The people still speak Irish. But no worries they speak English with the tourists. They are proud of their heritage. In the summer months it can get a bit touristy when all the day trippers from Galway arrive. You can get to Inishmore by ferry or plane. The ferry departs from Rossaveel (Co. Galway) or Doolin (Co. Clare) to Inishmore. Be sure you check the sailing times as that varies plus the weather can change quite dramatically in a few hours. Aer Arann flies to Inishmore. I would suggest you stay a few nights on Inishmore just to take it all in. Accomodation available for almost every budget. During the day the hustle and bustle is everywhere but at night the island is very quiet. And you can talk to the locals. You are most certain to have the beach for yourself. Only the very brave have a dip in the water. Even in summer the water can be quiet cool. It is the Atlantic after all. Have some fresh fish while you are there. It can't be fresher. Great place for little walks or swing yourself onto a bike. But careful the island is very hilly. Another great thing on Inishmore to do is just watch the clouds go by or light changing/breaking in the ocean. When you arrive on the island a handful of locals offer their service to show you around the island either in a minivan or one horse carriage. Lots of shops around where you can buy handknit Aran Sweaters and other hancrafted things. A fantastic little island for a few days of relaxation. My tip stay in the pierhouse, very central, nice rooms, warm welcome, fantastic food. Like the name says it is on the pier and you can watch the tourists come and go.

The biggest island of the three and ok it is a bit touristy (not a big fan of the souvenir shops at the pier) but then almost all the nice places in Ireland have become touristy. When you get of the boat turn right and you'll find a shop where they rent bikes. Great way to see the island. Some of the nicer spots can be a bit tricky to get to, steap hills and rocky roads. Beautifull spot, great day-trip even better place to stay for a mid-week and just relax.
