Aug 5, 2008 An amazing day trip located south of Dublin in County Wicklow. The are the ruins of a 6th century abbey where monks still live and study today. Oct 14, 2009 Glendalough is one of those trips classic day trips but it is worth facing the big crowds for. I've been there three times and even when it was on a busy sunday afternoon it still amazes me. These are the perfect Irish ruins you invision when you think of Ireland. The ruins of the monastry are in a valley, but there are some sites in the hills and even a rather nice little waterfall. All these sites are pretty well indicated. The first time I was there a big group of us tried to walk a bit further, sun went down rather fast and whole of sudden you're there in the dusk with a few people who are not prepared shoe-wise to take a short-cut over a hill. Still, great fun. If you can you should stay there for the night. I found it most enchanting in the late evening, walking around over the cemetery with the fog just coming in, very eerie experience.
