Though very desolate, you can still imagine the vibrant streets filled with merchants and locals buying essentials. The consequences of the Israeli occupation mean that it is now very vacant: a lot of the shopkeepers had to close down because Palestinians don't have a lot of access into the town. Very impressive but unfortunately more in a negative way. This also means that you can buy souvenirs here that are much cheaper than in al-quds (Jerusalem).

It was the end of ramazan when I was there and the whole city was on the street and in the markets, Akko's population is mostly islamic.
