Dec 10, 2009 The excavations at Pompeii are the remains of what was once a wonderful town which came under the dust and lava flows from Mount Vesuvius when it erupted a long time ago. The houses still show the painted walls and many of the articles of the house still remain in testimony of the sudden death causing eruption that devastated a whole township. There are two ampitheatres at one end of the excavations. Most of the stuff inside the houses is now shifted to the Archeological Museum in Naples. Some of the human and animal skeletons are still kept in their original places. The temples of different gods and goddesses are worth seeing even if they have now been reassembled from whatever was remaining. Some of the villas are kept closed and you have to ask for them to be opened. Aug 27, 2009 Its extraordinary to go there : you travel during the time. You are 2000 years ago. Unfortunally, the site was in some places (you can notice it) damaged by the massive tourism. But anyway, if you want to see what was a house during the year 79 and sometimes stones bodies of the people at that time. These "Pompei scavi" are a huge flash-back !!!
