The highlight of the Borghese Gallery is its Baroque sculptures, including an extensive collection of Berninis. In particular, his Apollo Chasing Daphne is a true masterpiece that captures the moment in mid-action. The painting collection isn't anything to sneeze at either. It includes works by Rubens, Titian, Raphael, and Caravaggio among others. The reservation system limits visitors to a maximum visit of two hours, and only allows 360 people in per two hours. Reservations can (and should be) made online at http://www.ticketeria.it/ . It is best to reserve at least a few days in advance, if not a week or more in advance during peak times. Otherwise you can roll the dice and try and get tickets at the gallery if people no show. The upside of the reservations is that you can experience the artwork with manageable crowds. Apr 11, 2009 The park around Villa Borghese is simply amazing! Tired from the hot city of Rome, it is a place to relax in the cool shadows of the trees, listen to music, read a book, or take a nap. Furthermore there is a little lake where boats can be rented and it's not even expensive. There are also a lot of places to take beautiful pictures. My favorite is the one with the rose trees. The negative point here is that there are very few restrooms available compared to the number of people being around during the season and there are long waiting lines - at least in front of the ladies restroom =) Sep 22, 2009 I've been to Rome only once, but villa Borghese is a place I will visit every time I return to Rome. It is a beautiful villa in the middle of a huge park, with magnificent statues and fountains, wonderful place to spend a hot summer day. Whether you want to visit a museum, or just want to spend a day walking, this is the place to visit. Last, but not least, from the park you can have a beautiful view to the Piazza del Popolo and St. Peter's Cathedral!!! A place definitely worth of visit! Aug 25, 2008 If you have seen all the major attractions, don't skip the Villa Borghese! The museum (which was at one time someone's home) is on the small side, but, the murals, the sculpture (including Venus Victrix ), and paintings (including some haunting images by Caravaggio) are first-class. The grounds are amazing and I love the tiny "island" with the temple built on it. Oct 11, 2009 I loved Villa Borghese, I think it's actually better than the Vatican. Amazing Bernini statues!! And less lousy art exposed (the Vatican is just filled with too much stuff that isn't worth it, when you arrive at the sixteenth chapel, you're too tired to really appreciate it).. Absolutely a must-go!!!! Sep 12, 2008 I ever love the walk before arriving there. There are discount for students of humanistic studies...and the place is great even for a meal on the benches(quiet and relaxing)-the fontain just befor the Villa is very refreshing after a so long walk!!!
