Every year, twice a year, everything and everyone in Siena comes out to the mainsquare for a major horseracing event called Il Palio. The different quarters of the city all bring a horse to the race and the 'battle' is on. It's actually not very touristic, but I went with the PlusFlorence Hostel and it was an awesome trip! Definitely recommend everyone to go! Look the dates up on the internet and remember to bring a lot of drinks, 'cause you're in the mainsquare for a couple of hours with no way out until the race is over. Have fun!
