One of the most beautiful places I´ve ever seen! Volterra is an acient town - and you can see it! History fans like me get all they want: in the 4th centuryB.C. the etruscans built the first bit of Volterra. Later the Romans came - of course. Ans in mediveal times this town was known for the place where the Medici lived (sometimes ;) ). I´ts on top of a hill so you have a terriffic view over the landscape. The main plaza is just beautiful. You´re surrounded by ancient walls made of light sand stone. You can sit in one of the very italian cafes and enjoy one of the best latte macchiatos there are - or a really, really good hot chocolate! Mostly there are street musicians and sometimes you can see some freaks running around in mediveal clothes :) Most of the town is just for pedestrians. You will have to leave your car at one of the big car parks outside. Just love it, beautiful spot!
