Jul 21, 2009 Assisi, Italy. I still remember the place as I ended my train ride upon reaching this place in Italy. From afar, it looks like just one of the many villages dotting the Italian landscape but as you go up the hills and discover the many churches and the quaint and somewhat quiet classic architecture of the houses and the different courtyards, you get to appreciate the regal beauty of the surroundings. I remembered entering the church where St. Francis heard the voice asking him to repair the church. The shops are also magnificent with its colorful array of religious items and what-have-yous. Take your camera with you as you will wish to capture the serenity and solemn beauty of the place in pictures. Apr 9, 2009 St Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of Italy and the founder of the Franciscan order. You go up narrow cobble stone roads that dated back to the medieval time. Assisi is on a green hill and it contains 7 churches; one of them was built by St Francis in 1228. You can see the statue of St Francis "the bird feeder", pilgrims and architecture that take you back in time. Related Links
