The enclosed limestone Bridge of Sighs was built in 1602 and connects the prisons to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace.  The Bridge of Sighs has windows with stone bars and is named since prisoners would sigh as they crossed the bridge since it would be their last view of Venice before being jailed.

It is a very beautifull place, but crowdy most of the time. In Italian : Ponte dei Sospiri. It is the connection between Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace) and the prison. Casanova and Galileo have once been imprisoned here. You can walk over the Bridge of Sighs if you visit "Palazzo Ducale".

Venice is the city of bridges. This bridge leads to a prison. Thus, in the 17 th C prisoners used to sigh as they cross this bridge because it was their last breath of freedom and fresh air. You can also visit the prison and the torture chambers.

you almost don't notice it because of the sheer number of people, and if you don't know what you are looking for, you end up mistaking another bridge for it ahaha
