By large, Venice is an admirable floating city. San Marco Square by its coast is really fantastic. Docking off to the port and bridging to the Sospiri to get to San Marco square, left me a magnificent impression by the colorful architectural design of the buildings, not to mention the arabic influence of Dodge´s Palace. The Campanilla actually strikes by the hour and is amazing sight. The San Marco Basilica of course has unique paintings from the outside walls. It´s overall magnificent.

I stayed in a little hotel just a 5 minute walk from St. Mark`s Square. The Bacilica and the tower are must see photo ops, you get some great shots of Venice here. Feed the pigeons and take a Gondola ride, expensive but worth it. Restaurants in the square are expensive, much cheaper to dine at an eatery in a side alley off the square.

Amazingly a wonder...the engineering, designs, palaces, churches, osteries and alleys. Breathtaking views at all angles. Certainly a photographer's paradise. Lots of pigeons and tourists accentuate the Square. Despite the crowded atmosphere, its a most unforgettable experience.

Feed pigeons, visit San Marco basilique, sit in a café, admire the campanila or two columns dominating the harbour. The place finds itself under water in winter sometimes, so ppl have to walk on special high paths! Recommended!

Quite the contrary - found Venice overall to be a very clean, tidy place. For a city that is literally crumbling away faster than it can be held together I believe it's pristine and nearly immaculate.
