The Horai Bridge, built in 1879 during the Meiji Era, is the world longest wooden bridge. It spans 897m across the Oi-River, and was built, among others, to allow tea planters living in the town of Shimada to easily reach their tea plantations on the other side of the river.

On the other side of the river, there's a path through the hills, along which are placed status of different japanese deities.

The length of the bridge is truly impresive. It is definitely worth a visit, especialy since this is not the only attraction the town of Shimada has to offer.
