A few blocks walk north from Kyoto station, then just to the left. You can't miss it as it's in a park.

Oct 25, 2010 The castle was built by the first Tokugawa Shogun,Ieyasu (1603). It was done to defend the Kyoto Imperial Palace and to serve as an official residence for visiting shoguns. As you arrive, you take off your shoes and walk along the Nightingale floor. The squeaking sound of the floor was used as a warning sign if somebody tried to sneak. You can see many chambers with statues of shoguns and warriors. The walls are painted with eagles that show the power of shoguns, cherry trees and cedar trees that represent longevity. Nov 1, 2008 Visit Ni-jo castle in Kyoto built by the Tokugawa shoguns. The board walk entry to the castle was called the "nightingale" steps because of the sound like the birds when an enemy approached at night. Nov 20, 2009 take your shoes off to enter this world heritage site of unesco. it's as old as 400 years, with kiyomizudera temple where you can collect the water from the spring on atop of the balcony.
