Tenryu-Ji
About Tenryu-Ji
This is one of the major temples of the Rinzai school of zen. It was built in 1339 on the former site of Emporor Go-Daigo's villa after a priest had dreamt of dragon rising from the nearby river. The dream was interpreted as a sign that the emporor's spirit was uneasy and the temple was built as an appeasement. The present building dates from the 19th century but the garden is from the 14th century.

Jun 7, 2009 People come here to see the Zen garden and I must say it is really gorgous. Even though there are to many people to call it peaceful it is still a relaxing visit. You can enter through the garden en then you only pay for the garden or you can enter through the building and then you can see both the building and the garden. There is a slight difference in entrance fee and to be honest I don't think the building in itself is that big a deal. Aug 11, 2010 the temple is held in high esteem, and is ranked as the most important (Rinzai) Zen temple in Kyoto. In 1994, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as one of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyot. Around all temples in Japan are great gardens worth to see. :)
