Lalaport Tokyo Bay
About Lalaport Tokyo Bay
Lalaport Tokyo Bay is an example of the quintessential Tokyo mega development with its 540 stores in one location. Its not something you need to see but it should be on your list of things to do if the weather prevents you from seeing outdoor attractions and you don't want to visit museums. The stores include ones familiar to westerners such as Eddy Bauer, Lacoste, Gap and Toys R US. The others such as Ducky Duck, Kuchi Koo, Blue Train, Mega Blue Bird or Driza Bone don't offer any clue to what they sell but are fun examples of what the Japanese think are cool brand names. There's a wide range of products and services and some quirky theme areas such as Bakery Row and Candy Street. The stores I liked included Tokyu Hands(lifestyle, hobby), Uniqlo(clothes) and Zebio( sporting goods). Since we recommended this as a rainy day refuge you won't see entertainment events such as acrobats in the outdoor courtyard but kid friendly events are part of the flavor of Lalaport. The greater Tokyo area has 35 million residents and Lalaport is one developer's answer on the best way to give consumers a way of shopping outside of Tokyo city itself in a relatively relaxed and spacious setting.

Oct 21, 2008 Lalaport is a good way to try and understand how people in a region that has the same population as Canada go about taking care of their day to day needs. Japan is a land of contrasts between its history and it modernity and Lalaport provides useful context.
