Jul 29, 2008 Dejima is the old site where the Dutch were forced to live on a manmade island in Nagasaki Harbor. This was the only "foreign" trade allowed during Japan's long isolation period. The Chinese also had an island nearby. Because of land reclamation, the area is now part of the city, but there are reconstructed buildings, models and old streets. Nagasaki also has one of the best Chinatown districts in Japan. Great food (champon, kasutera) great views from the cable car ride and much more.
