Sanjūsangen-dō is a Buddhist Temple. The temple has 33 columns; 33 is a lucky number in Buddhism because a person can reincarnate into 33 different ways. It is famous for the 1000 life sized statues that surround a big statue. The statues are made of Japanese cypress and they are placed in 10 rows and 50 columns. They are all similar.
