Oct 18, 2008 Despite Jersey being an English island it is closer to France... the locals speak French and English. It has such a long varied history that really needs to be studied and cannot be explained in our brief scoop. It will not do it justice. St. Helier being the city centre is really where you need to start your journey and stay. It is also a popular venue for many especially during the summer though I think it just as beautiful and fascinating in the winter. St. Helier is not as flat as most cities are. It is quite hilly and some of the streets are cobbled so make sure you have your pumps or flat heeled shoes on. There food is also varied - you can find all sorts of food - Chinese, Indian, French (plenty of that about), Thai, etc, etc. Although I found the locals very accommodating I also found them to be slightly aloof and snooty (snobbish). This is probably not everyone can immigrate to Jersey. There are plenty of criterias you need to meet in order to be accepted. One being you need to be rich as it is still a tax heaven for the rich. However all that aside it is an amazing place in terms of history, natural beauty and activities. For example when we went in August we were lucky to witness the Battle of Flowers Parade. It was so colourful and exciting. It goes into the night with plenty of foods and drink everywhere. I was also lucky to go there during the Le Fete de Noue in November where you will see late night shopping street entertainment like fire eaters, jugglers, etc, etc. Streets are all lit up during this period. Very exciting. Please note Jersey is not cheap at all. Sep 28, 2011 great island and peacefull !!! with beautfull scenary wil loads to do and see and sea side beaches to explore.. with load of good local pubs and seaside restrants
