The Dead Sea is the world's lowest point at 402 meters below sea level. It lies at the bottom of a valley on the Jordan/West Bank/Israel border, and is the world's second most saline water body. Due to the high salinity, it is impossible to sink under the water, which makes it the only place on the planet, where weightlessness can be experienced in a natural environment. All you need to do is lie down on top of the water and relax.

Getting there:
Hire a car with a driver from Amman (JOD 50-70). The public transport system in this part of Jordan is not great. Also, have your passport with you. There are road checks along the way, due to the proximity to Israel.

The Dead Sea , the lowest point on the surface of the earth; it’s 400 meters below the sea level. It’s also a Spa resort where you can find hotels and centers for natural skin treatment.
It’s called Dead Sea because it’s so rich in salt and minerals that no fish can survive there. Swimming there is good adventure, you just have to go into the water and you find yourself floating. On the shore you should cover yourself with the mud which is very rich in minerals. After taking a shower you feel your body hot and itching.

Fun thing to do, you just walk into the sea and as soon as your gravity center, or whatever it is called, is under water it's impossible to stand up and you'll start floating automatically. You can go to one of the 'spas' or you can go to a local beach, just make sure you rinse with clean water afterwards. And ladies; it kind of burns in not so fun places but that passes after a while.

There is nothing more relaxing that watching the sun set over Mount Hebron, whilst laying on top of the sea.
The down side is that the really good beaches are in the 5 star resorts, which will charge you to enter. There are free beaches when you travel southbound from Amman, along the coast.

The Dead Sea was something I was interested in when I went to Jordan, but I wasn't overly excited about it. But I have to say that it was one of the neatest things...there's no way to describe floating like that! It's really a fun thing to experience. The mud is also good for your skin, so get dirty!! :)

just make it happen, skip the hotels and spas and do it like a local--park where you can and rinse off afterwards in the hot springs that drain into the sea.
