The desert hotel of tents is cool for sure but is also as fake as Disneyland. Best way to enjoy the desert is to climb the rock barrier close from the camp (about 500mts) by night to be sure to enjoy the sunrise. No scorpions or snakes around, it's really ok to spend night overthere, preferably by a fullmoon to see the tracks.

use the 4x4 and ask about the desert hotel in the middle of wadi rum near the camel race track.
