This acts as a wildlife refuge, largely for baby elephants and rhinos. The details below give you a fuller picture of the point of the trust.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a small, flexible charity, established in 1977 to honour to memory of a famous Naturalist, David Leslie Willaim Sheldrick MBE, the founder Warden of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya,The Trust has played an extremely significant role in Kenya’s conservation effort since it was founded in 1977, speaking out when necessary on controversial issues and stepping in unobtrusively and rapidly to bridge a gap or meet a shortfall that jeopardizes wildlife during times of Governmental economic constraints. Because in life David Sheldrick strongly censored the extravagance of exorbitant overheads, the Trust places great emphasis on minimal expenditure in this respect, thereby ensuring that donations given in support of wildlife reach their target in full in the most practical and positive manner.

This was a great experience. We did not have the opportunity to see any of the rhinos whilst we were there, but we did see the gorgeous infant elephants. The handlers were amazing and they spoke to us about the elephants, issues facing conservation in Kenya and how the elephants end up in their care. The stories were pretty harrowing and the care-givers gave the elephants so much love and care. We saw the babies take breakfast in the form of gigantic bottles, play soccer, roll around in the mud and generally play! I would highly recommend going here and if you can't make it, giving a donation.

They do wonderful work. Don't go expecting a zoo like setting. You do get to see the baby elephants with their care handlers - and what a beautiful site that was! It was plainly obvious how attached these young ones were to their care takers. I hope one of these days to make a large donation to their organization!

This was amazing to see and hear about. There are many baby orphan elephants that are cared for by men for years. They even sleep with them at night and feed them with giant bottles. This is a must when visiting Kenya!
