Lying on the border immediately North West of Tanzania, Amboseli National Park is famous for wildlife viewing.  Established as a National Park in 1974, the park covers over 392 square kilometres.  As a backdrop to the park, lies the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro.

During the dry season, large concentrations of wildlife congregate during the dry seasons.  Animals here include large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebra, impala, the endangered rhino and the occasional cheetah, among many others.

The Park is divided into 5 major wildlife habitats: open plains, rock thorn bush country, swamps, marshland, and acacia woodland.  Within the park also lies the seasonally present lake Amboseli, itself contained within a dry Pleistocene lake basin.

It is currently managed by the Olekjiado County Council.

Amboseli park gates include: Kelunyiet, Iremito, Ilmeshanan; Kitirua, and Airstrip.

It is not as spectacular as Masai Mara, but also interesting. Landscape is very interesting, with volcanic rocks and Kilimanjaro view. There are also nice Masai villages, with inhabitants not so "commercialized" as elswhere (if you know what I mean...).

Good for elephants. I also saw cheetahs, hyenas, lions, buffalo and gerenuk antelope whilst there.

It's like a gigantic zoo. There are heaps of tourists there. It's better to go to T'Savo East
