Mansudae Grand Monument
About Mansudae Grand Monument
Built in 1972 to commemorate the 60th birthday of Kim Il Jung (the deceased "Great Leader" and "Eternal President"), the Mansudae Grand Monument is a 20m tall bronze statue situated on Mansu Hill. This is a major pilgrimage spot for North Koreans to pay their respects to Kim Il Jung. Legend has it that the monument was originally going to be 40m tall, and that Kim Il Jung's modesty resulted in a reduced size.
