The place is like a jewel. Hidden away in the mountains after hours of bus ride through curvy streets close to deep gorges - you gonna be more than rewarded. The whole place is UNESCO protected culture heritage side. Here it's said the oldest and most beautiful temple of South East Asia meet french colonial style houses. It feels like time stood still, like in old indochine times... What an experience to see the sunste over the Mekong river. Outside the town but close by taxi (you just rent it for the day, the driver waits for you) is a beautiful waterfall side... You can refresh yourself at various pools or just do photos of the big main waterfall. The people are friendly and the night market is amazing... you can make good bargains. Bars and restaurants close around 10pm but the place open until 1-2am is the bowling centre ;) If you wanna try typical food eat the meals you prepare on a sort of table grill - it's yummy!

Luang Prabang is amazing. From the Kuang Si Falls to the many beautiful temples to the night market on Sisavangvong Rd, you'll end up spending far longer than anticipated in Luang Prabang. If you're coming from Thailand, take the slow boat - but purchase a pillow in Chiang Mai before leaving for Huay Xai, it can be pretty uncomfortable. Bring plenty of food/drink/games/books - it can drag a little, but a great experience. Don't get conned into buying a ticket in Bangkok, buy it the day before leaving, it's much cheaper, should be around 12,000 KIP.

Lovely, lovely LP !

It's like being in some serene town in Europe....with the marvelously retained French architecture, spectacular cuisine, and cool climate
Crepes! in all yummy flavors - nutella, banana and honey, strawberry... yum yum!
The night market, where the street hawkers don't pressure you to buy anything
The backpacker scene - friendly, unassuming, yet definitely accommodating
LP just makes you want to ....stay one more day, week, month!

My oldest son and I really enjoyed our visit here. The energy here was welcoming and intriguing. We spent two evenings in the market. It was fun, interesting, and entertaining. The vendors were friendly and engaging. We found some nice handmade gifts to take home. We also delighted in the food choices - delicious! The buidings were beautifuI and we both found it a great place to expose some tremendous photographs.

The night market here was one of my favorite night markets is South East Asia, and it was also the smallest. This town is really lovely, and despite being small, you will probably yearn to spend some extra days.
