Mosaic
Considered one of the most important temples in Laos, Wat Xieng Thong, meaning "Temple of the Golden City", was built in 1560 by King Setthathirat.  The temple is situated within a beautiful garden on the bank of the Mekong River near Nam Khan.

It is at this temple that former Kings were crowned, and many important rituals were performed.  The temple has been augmented over time, from a small modest temple into its current incarnation comprising large sweeping roofs, gold leaf decorations and figurines, and colourful mosaics, including a famous tree of life mosaic constructed with coloured glass.

This temple is supposed to be the most beautiful and oldest temple in South East Asia. It was built in 1560 under king Setthathirat and was placed with easy reach of the Mekong river. You can find a very old magnificent Buddha statue in that temple. Best temple in Luang Prabang anyway!

Most beautiful temple in Laos, and architecturally distinct from all the other temples in Luang Prabang. A must-see.
