It's a public space which is real landmark. it is useful place for people who can always tell where they are in the city based on the distance and angle of perception from which they see the Freedom Monument. And also it's really good meeting place, appropriate for all kinds of manifestations, or simply enjoying and relaxing...

Large monument on main square. There is interesting story why this statue survived soviet times. Smart Latvians were saying that it is not woman on top is not representing "Freedom", but "Mother Russia".
Good strategy! :)

This entire city is beautiful, old town is kept so clean and neat, old buildings and monuments everywhere. Nice shops and malls, food to die for. What a nice trip.

It is a statue for Latvias independency. They were over 60 years under command of soviet union.
