In 936 the Christians were persecuted, so they took the mountains of Lebanon as a refuge and they carved into the rocks and built monasteries to protect them. When you see the monastery you wonder how this place is thrown into the valley and how they were able to build it. St Antonio- Isaiah monastery is still a centre of pilgrimage and prayer. It’s a place of tourist interest and it’s mostly visited for its wonderful spot, the monastery, the church, and the museum where you can see the first printing press in the ME (1783) and various manuscripts.
