Tyre is one of the oldest cities in the world (83 Km from Beirut). It was founded at the start of the 3rd C. BC. The Phoenician, who discovered the alphabet, made of it a prosperous commercial city. Its wealth and startegic location made of it a target to different enemies, so it was conquered several times by : Babylonian, Roman, Byzantine, Crusaders, Mameluks and Ottomans ... Therefore, ancient civilisations have left their marks in this ancient city. Jesus first miracle, turning the water into wine in the wedding, was performed in Qana in Tyre. Besides, Tyre was mentioned several times in the bible and Jesus used to visit it.
