Oct 12, 2008 Perhaps the most famous park in Madagascar because it is relativel easy to get to from the main highway. The landscape here first appears dry and harsh with noting but a few sparse trees and shrubs, like the Elephant Foot plant, which grows so slow, one the size of a soccer ball may bee hundreds of years old! After getting in to the park, you have some options to head to more dense vegetation in search of lemurs and chameleons and other plants or animals. The hiking here is relatively easy, if you're on a short hike, bu heading in to the canyons you need to be prepared as the heat can quicky get you sweating. This park is BIG and while most visitors do 1/2 day hikes, you can arrange multi-day hikes of 4-5 days if you want to see more of the park. One popular highlight is swimming at the 'piscine naturelle' a nice little oasis surrounded by lush fern like plants. A very neat park with a variety of landscapes and animals.
