Travelling to nearby Malawi was a sort of a must for all of us working and living in Central Mozambique. The road trip to Milange, at the border with Malawi, a few hours of mainly dust road - around 400km - allowed us to go for a weekend to that tiny however interesting country. During a longer weekend, we managed to escape Blantyre and try it further north. At Lilongwe, we then decided to go to the lake Malawi (lake Nyassa as it is called in Mozambique) and have a wonderful weekend there at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel. Used to the Atlantic Ocean beaches, back home, or Indian Ocean beaches at Mozambique, it was a rather strange yet interesting feeling diving and swimming in such a still water at the beach. The view was overwhelming with some islands in front of us.

The hotel was a nice one, nice meals, friendly staff and all pretty much afordable. An island of peace and quality at this remote part of the world.
