One of Malaysia's largest national parks, Taman Negara sprawls over three states, and covers an area 4,343 square kilometres in size.  Within this area is pristine primary forests that have not been affected by  the ice age, nor by any volcanic disturbances.

Taman Negara is a major ecotourism destination, featuring attractions such as Gunung Tahan - the highest point in the Malay Peninsula, and numerous rivers perfect for boating trips.   Go on a canopy walkway, try a jungle trekking tour,  catch sight of many different animals, including the Indochinese Tiger, the Sumatran Rhinoceros, the Malaysian Gaur, Asian Elephant, and more.  Unlike African savannas however, the dense jungle may make the animals difficult to spot.  Bird lovers will also be happy to know that the bird life is prolific.  Inhabitants include kingfishers and hornbills.
