Sapi is one of the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.  Coral reefs and beaches.  Go early -  it rains in kk mid afternoon.  If you get back on the 2pm boat you can still catch the 4.00 afternoon show at the green connection - 10min from The Marina by taxi.  Very cheap combination of fantastic attractions.

Beautiful little island. There's a covered area you can stay in if you don't have a tent. Loads of monitor lizards wondering around (very docile). Don't try and swim to the nearby islands as you get told off and apparently the rock fish come out at night so you shouldn't swim after sunset.

An uninhabited island near the shore of Kota Kinabalu. If you're lucky you'll be there all by yourself @ night! There's a campground, we stayed there overnight and it was wonderfull!!! During the day a lot of tourists, but once they are gone it's like a piece of heaven!
