Great Mosque of Djenné
About Great Mosque of Djenné
First built in the 13th century but created in its current form in 1907, the Great Mosque of Djenné is the largest mud brick or adobe building in the world, and is considered by architects to be one of the greatest achievements of the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style. It is one of the landmarks of Mali and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Oct 29, 2008 I don't know that I would say this is the best reason for going to Mali but it is certainly an impressive structure. While technically 'non-believers' are not allowed inside there were a number of people inside the mosque who offered to take us in (for a price of course) provided we covered our heads/shoulders etc. We didn't opt to go in so I can't tell you about that, but from the outside it's quite something.
